Cheering on 2024 HKDSE Candidates

Secondary Six students across Hong Kong are sitting the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE). In the face of this formidable challenge, CLAP-TECH along with principals from nine partner schools, share messages of support and encouragement for exam candidates across Hong Kong.

Andrew Ho, Director of CLAP-TECH Centre

After completing the DSE exams, one of the major points of stress for students lies in deciding what their next steps might be – an understandably nerve-wracking decision that can impact their exam performance. In this critical moment, I encourage students to let go of their worries and have faith that there are many different paths to success. It is important to keep in mind that exam results are just a starting point, and that you must also explore your strengths and interests to carve your own path through making informed decisions. At this time, it is crucial for exam candidates to stay focused and make the most out of the immense efforts spent on exam preparation.

Students should actively explore diverse pathways for further education and broaden their horizons. CLAP-TECH offers two-year Higher Diploma programmes that include opportunities for paid internships and dedicated career planning activities in collaboration with industry partners, which allow students to engage with professionals in the information and communications technology (ICT) and creative media industries. Upon graduation, students can take the appropriate steps toward fulfilling their dreams and choose to either pursue a Bachelor’s degree programme through Senior Year Admissions (year 3), or to enter the job market directly.

Ms. Lam Yim-Ling, Principal of Delia Memorial School (Hip Wo)

To all Secondary Six students: Each of you is a unique individual with your own strengths and potential. May you approach your exams with a “positive and proactive” mindset, giving it your all. The enthusiasm and perseverance you demonstrate today will become important qualities that will help you excelin facing future challenges and opportunities.

Mr. Franky Poon, Principal of Hong Kong Red Swastika Society Tai Po Secondary School

Recognising that each student has their own qualities and strengths, our school adopts an inclusive education model that embraces diverse learning approaches, empowering students to explore their strengths and choose their own paths. While the DSE exams are a significant milestone in life, your scores definitely are not the sole indicators of your success. What matters most is understanding your strengths and making well-informed decisions to select the path that suits your abilities to unleash your potential to the fullest.

Ms. Maggie Lam, Principal of Kwai Chung Methodist College

I hope that every student approaches their DSE examinations with a sense of confidence and calmness, enabling their true potential to shine through. It is important to keep in mind that success in life isn’t solely dictated by your exam results. The modern world is constantly evolving. Undoubtedly, you have experienced monumental growth and acquired valuable knowledge over the past six years through your studies and school activities. As you embark on your journey ahead, hold your head high and make well-informed choices. I encourage you to follow the path that aligns with your true calling and purpose.

Mr. Kwok Wing-Keung, Principal of Law Ting Pong Secondary School

Our school has always offered a wide range of learning opportunities to help students discover their own interests and unleash their full potential. After the DSE exams, students will have the opportunity to not only pursue higher education but to further their knowledge in vocational industries as well. Vocational education in Hong Kong is rapidly evolving, providing students with diverse options to succeed. At the moment, students should concentrate on doing well in their exams, while remaining confident that there will always be plenty of pathways to explore their future career.

Ms. Ling See-Yan, Principal of Lok Sin Tong Yu Kan Hing Secondary School

While the DSE exam is indeed a significant milestone in one’s educational journey, it is important for students to remember that skills such as effective communication, collaboration, and analytical thinking are equally vital to one’s success. These soft skills are not only crucial in academics but they are also indispensable qualities in the workplace. Regardless of the career paths students choose after the exams, the key to success lies in adopting a love for self-learning and embracing growth through diverse experiences. The ultimate goal is to make valuable contributions to society by actively engaging in continuous learning, gaining new experiences, and applying knowledge in meaningful ways.

Mr. William Wong, Principal of Man Kwan Pak Kau College

We firmly believe that everyone is educable and that every student has the talent and potential to succeed. Over the past six years, through rigorous academic training and thoughtful career planning guidance, our students have developed confidence and self-esteem. I firmly believe that regardless of their exam grades, our students will succeed in a way of their own choice with acquired knowledge and skills.

Mr. Li Kin-Man, Principal of Salesians of Don Bosco Ng Siu Mui Secondary School

Everyone has the capacity to excel. Through dedicated initiatives like mentoring, professional and career development planning, our students have gradually discovered their own unique strengths and potentials. When facing formidable public exams and future challenges, it is important for students to remember that they have the ability to conquer any challenge and to always have hope in the face of adversity!

Ms. Tam Chong-Ling, Principal of Shun Tak Fraternal Association Yung Yau College

Our school has always been dedicated to fostering students’ passion for learning and inspire creative thinking through interactive learning methods, while building self-confidence. As we approach the crucial milestone of the DSE exams, we hope that students face each challenge with confidence and fully utilise what they have learned. We also extend our heartfelt wishes to all exam candidates as they embark on their future endeavours and reach new heights.

Mr. Pang Ka-Keung, Principal of The Yuen Yuen Institute MFBM Nei Ming Chan Lui Chung Tak Memorial College

In the face of DSE exams, we recognise students’ determination and immense effort to strive for success. Nevertheless, it is crucial to also keep a long-term perspective in mind. The skills students have developed, including creativity, logical thinking, and problem-solving that were cultivated during their secondary education will prove to be essential throughout the rest of their lives. In the future, students will undoubtedly appreciate the invaluable investment they made during this pivotal time in their lives.

Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Jockey Club Multiple Pathways Initiative – CLAP-TECH Pathway (CLAP-TECH) is Hong Kong’s first through-train vocational and professional education and training (VPET) pathway in mainstream senior secondary and post-secondary education. The programme was formed through a tripartite partnership among Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), industry partners, and partnering secondary schools. The programme aims to provide students with a comprehensive education by equipping students with technical and soft skills needed to excel in their future workplace, through classroom learning, career development activities, internship opportunities, and experiential learning experiences. By incorporating elements of career and life development in the curriculum, CLAP-TECH encourages students to make informed decisions about their future career paths, enabling them to forge their own future based on their strengths and passions.

CLAP-TECH offers a Higher Diploma in Data Science programme, offered by the School of Continuing Education, Hong Kong Baptist University. Starting this September, the Higher Diploma in Art Tech Design programme will also be available, offered by the College of International Education, Hong Kong Baptist University.
